With a summit finish on the Mur de Huy, stage three of the 2015 Tour de France was always likely to be a crucial one and so it proved – but for many different reasons.

A huge crash marred the stage early on and, in effect, split the race into two parts – with the race neutralised after the crash to allow the medical support cars time to treat the injured.

Only four riders abandoned – William Bonnet (FDJ), Tom Dumoulin (Giant-Alpecin), Simon Gerrans (Orica-GreenEDGE) and Dimitry Kozontchuk (Katusha).

When racing resumed, Joaquim Rodriguez (Katusha) was the man to emerge triumphant on the Mur de Huy after crosswinds had split the peloton once again.

Chris Froome bagged second, and with it the yellow jersey, to ensure Team Sky have the leading car for the cobbled stage four – something which could prove crucial in the event of any punctures or crashes.
