Sir Bradley Wiggins
Sir Bradley Wiggins became the first Brit to ever win the Tour de France, triumphing in 2012 after holding the yellow jersey from La Planche des Belles Filles all the way to Paris.
That achievement, which included time trial victories in Besancon and – iconically – in Chartres, where he punched the air and roared his way over finishing line having all-but-sealed victory – saw him collect 14 jerseys.
The victory, one of the highlights of Britain’s 2012 sporting summer, also saw him complete the set of leader’s jerseys having previously led the Giro (2010) and Vuelta (2011).
Wiggins’ final ride in the yellow jersey saw him lead Mark Cavendish out on the Champs-Elysees, to cap a perfect British end to the race.
The Ghent-born Brit’s appearance on the podium to pull on the maillot jaune was also his last Tour de France outing – his departure from Team Sky in April confirming his first Tour win was also his last Tour appearance.
