Orica-GreenEDGE make winning look like fun in Stage Nine of the Giro d’Italia.
In contrast to the high seriousness that surrounds some of their rivals, the Australian outfit seem to enjoy their racing, and that enjoyment is clearly paying dividends.
Pieter Weening was the latest to join a party that within the last month has included celebrations of victories at Liege-Bastogne-Liege, the Tour de Romandie, and the Tour of Turkey.
The Dutchman vanquished Europcar’s Davide Malacarne en route to the summit of the Passo del Lupo, and celebrated in style, with arms aloft and a huge grin on his face as he crossed the line.
Weening’s victory means that as the riders enjoy the second rest day of the 97th corsa rosa, Orica-GreenEDGE have won a third of all stages contested so far, and held the leader’s jersey for six stages out of nine.
