John Degenkolb avenged his mechanical misfortune of 12 months ago to grab the first Monument victory of his career at the 2015 Milan-San Remo.
An enthralling race, which saw Geraint Thomas (Team Sky) attack on the Cipressa and defending champion Alexander Kristoff (Katusha) narrowly miss out in the sprint, ended with Degenkolb fighting back the tears after the perfect start to his 2015 Classics campaign.
Photographer Stefano Sirotti was on hand to capture the best of the action from another memorable edition of the season’s first – and longest – Monument.
