Arnaud Demare (FDJ) upset the odds to win a dramatic Milan-San Remo, after a chaotic and thrilling finale.
The Frenchman beat Britain’s Ben Swift (Team Sky) into second place, sealing his first Monument win in the process, while Jurgen Roelandts (Lotto-Soudal) finished third as several sprinters were held up by a late crash.
Demare is the first Frenchman to win La Primavera since Laurent Jalabert in 1995, while Swift’s result is Team Sky’s best Monument finish.
