Team Sky’s Olympic team pursuit champion Geraint Thomas stated at the start of this season, he wishes to establish a set role for himself in 2014.
Classics hardman, domestique or team leader, Thomas has been employed in many different roles already on the road.
But it was in the guise of the latter in which the Welshman has earned his latest plaudits, filling in for Richie Porte at very late notice to lead Team Sky at Paris-Nice.
And though he lost in a two-up sprint against Tom-Jelte Slagter on stage four, Thomas has not let the side down, moving into the overall lead.
