Chris Froome had mighty big boots to fill at this year’s Tour de France when Team Sky directeur sportif Sir Dave Brailsford chose the Kenyan-born Brit as team leader.
After leading Bradley Wiggins to victory as a super-domestique last year – a Tour which saw Froome finish second – the 28-year-old was backed to become the second British rider to top the Tour podium.
And ‘Froome-dog’ rose to the challenge and then some, securing three stage victories and wearing the maillot jaune from Ax 3 Domaines all the way to Paris two weeks later.
See how Froome rode into history in this gallery of images, chronicling his journey from Corsica to the top step of the podium on the Champs-Élysées.
