Cadel Evans is already a legend in his native Australia after winning the 2009 World Championship and the 2011 Tour de France – the first of his countrymen to do so.
And the BMC Racing rider’s popularity remains ever high down under, as proven by the phenomenal noise created by the crowd as he burst clear on Corkscrew Hill to move into the overall lead of the 2014 Tour Down Under.
Evans now holds a 12-second lead over compatriot Simon Gerrans (Orica-GreenEDGE) at the halfway point of the season-opening race.
