Home occasions do little to phase Great Britain’s team pursuit squads.
Gold medalists at last year’s Olympic Games in London, they shone beneath the lights of national cycling centre on the opening day of the Manchester round of the World Cup.
The transformation of the women’s team pursuit squad from Fantastic Three to Fab Four continued apace with another gold medal in another world record time.
And their male counterparts provided another display of the strength-in-depth at British Cycling by defeating old rivals Australia with a squad shorn of Olympic champions, Geraint Thomas and Peter Kennaugh.
Away from the top step of the podium, a silver medal for the women’s team pursuit duo of world champion, Becky James, and Victoria Williamson provided evidence of a flourishing partnership.
And a bronze medal in a period of public trials for the replacement of Sir Chris Hoy said much for the depth of talent available to men’s team sprint squad.
