Newly-crowned national champions Ian Field and Helen Wyman will lead Great Britain’s charge at the UCI Cyclo-Cross World Championships in Hoogerheide next month.
The races, which take place in the Dutch village on Saturday February 1 and Sunday February 2, will see Britain’s elite riders taking on the likes of reigning world champions Sven Nys (Belgium) and Marianne Vos (Netherlands).
Field, Britain’s only male competitor in the UCI World Cup, will compete in the men’s elite race on the Sunday, with 24-year-old David Fletcher – a former under-23 national champion – his sole team-mate.
Eight-time national champion Wyman however will be backed by a strong team in the elite women’s race on the Saturday.
Nikki Harris – currently placed second overall in the World Cup series – and Gabby Durrin, whose consistent performances have placed Great Britain top of the UCI nation rankings, are both included.
Teenage National Trophy winner Hannah Payton completes the four-strong line-up, which team manager Phil Dixon believes is a strong selection.
“We have some real experience in the riders selected for the elite races, and the elite women remain at the top of the world ranking for the second year running.
“In particular Helen Wyman is coming into form after her early season win in the European season.
“Overall I believe we have some exciting prospects for this year’s World Championships and the team are looking forward to racing at the event.”
The British squad is completed by Steve James, Ben Sumner, Jack Clarkson and Adam Martin, who will compete in the under-23 men’s race while British junior champion Thomas Craig heads the junior squad, which also includes Sean Dunlea, Dylan Keerfoot-Robson and Jack Ravenscroft.
