Julian Arredondo (Trek Factory Racing)
Colombian ace Julian Arredondo knows what it takes to win a Grand Tour mountains jersey, having done exactly that at last year’s Giro.
So he would seem well-suited to do exactly the same at the Tour de France, particularly with any GC hopes he may have had in tatters after the first two stages.
His Giro success, however, came from targeting the right breakaways on the right stages, and clocking some serious time up the road. Team leader Bauke Mollema has time to make up overall, but Arredondo’s duty to the Dutchman may prevent him having such a free role at the Tour, particularly with Trek not being blessed with an abundance of climbers.
If he is given license to attack, he could be a contender – but as much will depend on Mollema’s form as it does on Arredondo’s.
