The contenders – Leopold Konig (Team Sky)

Czech ace Leopold Konig is set to make his stage racing debut for Team Sky in Oman after two strong showings in Mallorca to kick the season off.

Konig finished in the top five in both of his two races in Spain and will head a strong squad in Oman should the provisional startlist prove correct.

Wout Poels will also make his Team Sky debut while domestiques include Philip Deignan and David Lopez.

Seventh at the Tour de France last season, while riding for Team NetApp-Endura, Konig has a big opportunity to prove he can step up to riding for a WorldTour team.

As form finders go, Mallorca showed Konig is in decent shape and a strong performance in Oman will be the perfect way to kick on and prove he deserves to lead Sky in bigger races.
