“Once you get that training camp under your belt, you know the season’s on and you’re going to be racing in a couple of weeks time,” says Madison-Genesis rider Tom Scully.
Scully, who won points race gold on the track at the 2014 Commonwealth Games for New Zealand, returns for his second season with Madison-Genesis, the UCI Continental-registered team managed by Roger Hammond.
This beautiful video gives a behind-the-scenes insight into the team’s pre-season training camp in Majorca, where preparations stepped up ahead of the 2015 campaign, which will start with the week-long Tour of Normandie stage race on March 23-29.
Scully is one of 14 riders on a team which also includes Tom Stewart, whose heroic day-long breakaway with Alex Dowsett (Movistar) and Matthias Brändle (IAM Cycling) earned him a podium finish on stage six of the Tour of Britain.
“Normally a camp is about hard days back-to-back and there’s not competition between the riders, but you do encourage one other to keep training hard, so it certainly gives you that motivation day in-day out,” says Stewart.
Stewart also earned two Tour Series victories in 2014, as well as his Tour of Britain success, and the national criterium series will once against form the backbone of Madison-Genesis’ race schedule alongside the UK’s premier stage race.
