Rainbows in Richmond
The world of cycling has setup camp in Richmond, USA, ahead of the 2015 UCI Road World Championships, where the cream of the pro peloton will once again fight it out for the honour of wearing a rainbow jersey.
A week of action will kick-off with Sunday’s team time trials, when BMC Racing and Velocio-SRAM (formerly Specialized-lululemon) will bid to defend the trade team titles they won in Ponferrada, Spain, 12 months ago.
The junior and under-23 will follow on September 21-22, where British interest will be led by Owain Doull, who arrives in Richmond on the back of a podium finish overall at the Tour of Britain, and two-time national under-23 champion Scott Davies. The elite women then race against the clock on September 22 and the men come to the fore the following day, bidding to replace Sir Bradley Wiggins as world time trial champion.
After the men’s and women’s junior and under-23 road races, the worlds will then draw to a close with the elite women’s road race on September 26 and elite men’s road race on September 27.
So who are the riders to look out for in Richmond this year? Where will the gold medals and rainbow jersey be won? Read on for our take on the courses and contenders for the key events over the following pages.
