Orica-GreenEDGE, in just their second Tour de France, made headlines for all the wrong reasons when their bus crashed into the finish line during stage one and caused chaos in the 100th edition of cycling’s greatest race.
However, five days later they are the toast of the cycling world having first seen Simon Gerrans win their maiden Tour stage, before pipping world champions Omega Pharma-Quickstep to the team time trial, putting Gerrans in the yellow jersey.
Gerrans relinquished the maillot jaune after stage six, but there was further celebration for Orica-GreenEDGE as his team mate Daryl Impey took the fabled jersey – the first South African ever to wear it.
Stage six also proved a mix of emotions for Lotto-Belisol, who started with their leader and general classification hopeful Jurgen van den Broeck abandoning due to injuries sustained in a crash the previous day but ended with Andre Greipel prevailing in a sprint finish in Montpellier.
