UCI WorldTour 2014 – three-month report card

The current state of play in professional cycling's top tier

We’re three months into the season and the UCI WorldTour is hotting up, with two of the biggest one-day races of the year almost upon us.

And with Gent-Wevelgem having taken place on Sunday, and the Volta a Catalunya drawing to a close on the same day, the WorldTour rankings are also starting to take shape with some early candidates to dethrone Joaquim Rodriguez (Katusha) as world number one come the end of the season.

Last year’s world number one Joaquim Rodriguez celebrates his stage three victory at the Volta a Catalunya (Pic: Tim de Waele/Katusha)

Last year’s number one team, Movistar, are also facing stiff competition if they are to hold the crown for a second consecutive season.

But what does it all mean, and where does it leave us going forward? Check out the riders, teams and nations who have made a flying start to the 2014 season alongside the best of British over the following pages, as well as some of our own predictions for the months ahead.
