Boris Bikes to be rolled out to casual users

Casual users will now be able to hire a bike

The Barclays Cycle Hire Scheme will be available to pay-as-you-go users from December 3.

Boris Bikes were launched to members only in July, with more than 100,000 users making approximately 1.7 million journeys since.

Until now, members have had to purchase a key fob in order to access a bike but anyone with Visa or Mastercard debit or credit card will be able to hire one of the iconic blue bikes from Friday next week.

Mayor of London Boris Johnson said: “It is fantastic that the Barclays cycle hire scheme has not only proved incredibly popular but the system has shown itself to be rigorous and robust.

“Now it has been thoroughly tried and tested by more than a 100,000 members we are ready for the next stage where anyone who fancies taking to two wheels can do so in an instant with a simple swipe of their card.”
