British Cycling and Sky will launch their Go-Ride Games on Saturday August 11, the final weekend of the Olympics.
Over 100 events are planned for the two-week ‘Games’, with many young people expected to take part in an event organisers hope will inspire tomorrow’s champions.
Two members of the current Team GB Olympic squad, Lizzie Armitstead and Ed Clancy, are backing the initiative.
“I started riding when I was 16 because of the Olympics in London and British Cycling launched a programme to find young talent.
“Now, with London finally here, I hope everyone is as excited and that the Go-Ride Games can inspire the next generation of star riders,” said Armitstead.
Clancy, a gold medallist four years ago at the Beijing Games, and expected to represent Great Britain in the men’s team pursuit and omnium in London next month, said the Go-Ride clubs were a brilliant way to get young people cycling.
“I’m sure all the Go-Ride Games events will be great fun and a huge success!” he added.
