Limited places remain on a four-day training camp with Team Sky rider Geraint Thomas on October 19-22, giving cyclists the opportunity to ride alongside the Welshman after this summer’s Olympic Games.
Thomas, who will attempt to defend the team pursuit gold medal won in 2008 on Thursday and Friday, will lead group rides, provide tips and offer an insight into his training programme on the second annual training camp at Bluestone National Park Resort in Pembrokeshire.
“It’s full on at the moment with training for the Olympics and I mean intense,” said Thomas. “But after the success at Beijing back in 2008 I’m determined to do us proud, as is the team.
“It’ll be great to get back to Wales in the autumn for the cycling weekend at Bluestone. Last year’s event attracted a lot of interest and it was good for me to get out on the roads with keen cyclists to chat, discuss tactics and basically have a good time.
“This year we’ll be undertaking two good ride-outs of about 70 miles each as well as some social events and discussion sessions. The scenery in Pembrokeshire is spectacular, so it’s a great backdrop for such an event and I’m really looking forward to getting out and hooking up with everyone.”
Places are limited and riders needs to be able to cycle 70 miles at an average speed of 16mph. The weekend package includes use of the thermal rooms at Bluestone’s Well Spa, an evening buffet and welcome with Thomas on the first evening, two ride-outs (with a motorcycle support team), an afternoon buffet and social evening on the Saturday, before another ride-out on the Sunday followed by Sunday lunch and a final presentation, before departing on Monday morning. Special packages are available for families.
Yvonne Buckingham, head of marketing at Bluestone, added: “Last year’s cycling weekend proved very popular and we had cyclists not just from the UK but even the United States coming along. It’s a great chance to meet Geraint in an intimate environment where they’ll have the chance to talk to him and gain tips, as well as enjoying the great facilities here at Bluestone.”
