Womens’ race training sessions to be held at Cyclopark in Kent

Two training sessions aimed at female cyclists who want to start racing in 2013 will be held at the Cyclopark in Dartford, Kent, in December.

Fan Backed Women’s Cycling is a network of cycling professionals, riders and fans dedicated to furthering opportunities for women’s cycle racing

The sessions, which will run from 10am to 2pm on December 9 and 23, are a result of the Fan Backed Women’s Cycling movement – a network of cycling professionals, riders and fans dedicated to furthering opportunities for women’s cycle racing.

Each four-hour training day will consist of two practical sessions on a traffic-free cycle circuit, where riders will learn the techniques, skills, tactics and group riding etiquette needed to race, while a classroom session will cover training theory, strength and conditioning, and nutrition.

The sessions are aimed at developing essential skills in novice and fourth category riders but more experienced third category racers and riders returning to the sport are also welcome.

The sessions will be delivered by Huw Williams, a British Cycling level three road and time trial coach, along with strength and conditioning coach Ben Wright and sports nutritionist Neil Stanley, who are both British Cycling level two coaches. Experienced, higher category female racers will be on hand as assistant coaches.

“At the end of these session you will have a solid grounding in the basic skills needed to race, plus a clear idea of a training strategy for the months leading up to the 2013 season,” said Williams.

“Each session is structured in a way that allows all riders to participate at their own level of ability and there will be no instances of novice riders feeling out of their depth.”

Cyclopark, which opened in May this year, is a dedicated cycle circuit with heated changing rooms, showers, a café, workshop facilities and lecture rooms.

The cost is £20 per head, per day (payable on the day), and includes tea/coffee during the classroom session. Places are limited so contact Huw Williams at [email protected] to register your interest.
