Less clothing dilemmas
One of the worst things about riding through winter is the sheer effort it takes just to get out of the door.
Not just the additional motivation required to train when it’s cold, wet and windy, but the clothing required to protect yourself against the conditions.
Winter clothing has come on a long way in recent years, and the rapid development of first-class weatherproof fabrics means we’re better protected than ever.
But the start of any winter ride always poses something of a dilemma when deciding what to pull from the wardrobe, before putting it all on and leaving the house dressed like the Michelin Man – only to discover five miles down the road that you’re still cold.
Things are so much simpler in summer. Jersey, shorts, base layer. Check. Is it cool enough for arm warmers? Maybe knee warmers. Ok, I’ll take a gilet or rain cape just in case. Job done. Time to ride.
