Disc brakes in the pro peloton
Disc brakes in the pro peloton
This summer will see disc brakes appear in the pro peloton for the first time in what is an experimental time in road cycling.
Disc brakes have been on the horizon for a while now, mostly appearing on bikes aimed at the sportive/endurance market, but have thus far been banned in road racing.
However, that’s set to change and this week the UCI announced that WorldTour teams will be able to trial disc brakes at two events of their choice in August and September. A full trial will then take place through 2016 which, if successful, will see disc brakes adopted permanently in 2017.
We’ll be watching with interest to see how this summer’s trial unfolds. Which teams will choose to use disc brakes? In what races? And what will the verdict be?
