Westerley Winter Warmer (Sunday January 11)
Westerley Winter Warmer (Sunday January 11)
Westerley Cycling Club’s Winter Warmer has been thrown open to the public, having been a club ride since its formation in 1998 until 2013.
The club is proud of the route through the Chilterns, devised by member Keith Shorten, and decided to open the event to allow non-members to sample their local lanes and use the reliability ride as a way to kick-start the year.
This year’s event will feature the main route, which covers 110km and 1,200m of climbing, a medium route with 61km and 559m of ascent, and a new short route covering 44km.
The Chilterns climbs of Frieth Hill, Magpie Lane, Clay Street and Bledlow Ridge all feature on the main route, with a target speed of between 12.5mph and 18mph.
With entry costing £10 on the day for the main route, or £8 in advance, the Westerley Winter Warmer is an ideal opportunity to get some early 2015 miles in.
