Fancy testing yourself on the routes that the elite riders of the Tour of Britain will face in September?
Registration has opened for the Tour Ride series of mass participation events which take in routes in Birmingham, East Anglia, Stoke-on-Trent, Scotland, and Wales, and begin in July.
The Staffordshire Moorlands climb of Gunn Hill, Caerphilly Mountain in Wales, as well as a route following the Tour’s longest stage in East Anglia, will all feature.
A 200km ride, following the Tour of Britain’s opening stage from Ipswich to Norfolk, opens the series on Sunday July 22.
August will see rides held in Wales and Scotland.
The Tour Ride Wales, follows a circular route beginning and ending outside Caerphilly Castle, and will be held on Sunday August 12.
On Sunday August 26, riders north of the border will get their chance to sample the challenge Tour of Britain riders will face on the third stage of this year’s race in Dumfries and Galloway.
September will see Tour Rides in Stoke-on-Trent (23) and Birmingham (30), with the latter encompassing the Cycle Show at the National Exhibition Centre. Riders signing up for any Tour Ride can enter the Cycle Show at half price. Those taking part in the Tour Ride Cycle Show sportive will also get 50 per cent off car parking.
Each ride offers a choice of distance: the full-length Pro Ride, and the half-distance Challenge ride. Details of a ‘family ride’ distance will be released soon.
Specialized will provide neutral service support to each ride. The National Escort Group (NEG) will supply motorcycle outriders. Maxifuel will provide nutrition advice.
