Canyon have entered the ring in the Road Bike Weight War by unveiling the Ultimate CF SLX 80 SuperLight – a 5.6kg featherweight machine with a £7,299 price tag.
The limited edition machine is based around the 790g Canyon Ultimate CF SLX frame on which Nairo Quintana (Movistar) won the 2014 Giro d’Italia – and RoadCyclingUK’s 2013 Bike of the Year.
The Ultimate CF SLX 80 SuperLight extends the 2015 range to six bikes and Canyon say this flagship build uses “only the finest components from esteemed manufacturers … to guarantee absolute performance and exclusivity”.
It’s a suitably top-end build, dressed in Campagnolo’s Super Record 80th Anniversary groupset and Lightweight Meilenstein Obermayer, which have a remarkable claimed weight of 975g, as well as Ritchey SuperLogic cockpit components, Canyon’s comfort-boosting VCLS 2.0 seatpost and a Fizik Antares R1 saddle.
Needless to say, the Ultimate CF SLX 80 SuperLight is Canyon’s lightest bike to date and goes head-to-head with the £11,000 4.65kg Trek Emonda SLR10 and the £8,499, 5.2kg Cannondale SuperSix Evo Black Inc.
If you don’t have £7,299 down the back of the sofa, the 2015 Canyon Ultimate CF SLX range starts at £2,599 with Shimano Ultegra, before rising to £3,199 with Shimano Ultegra Di2, £3,399 with Shimano Dura-Ace, £3,899 with SRAM Red and £5,599 with Shimano Dura-Ace Di2.
