Swindon CTC Cycle Champions sportive on Sunday February 19

Sportive riders in the Wiltshire area can get on their bikes on Sunday February 19 with a choice of routes from Swindon’s Lydiard Park.

The Swindon CTC Cycle Champions ride leaves from Lydiard Park on Sunday February 19

The event, part of the Swindon CTC Cyle Champions programme, offers two routes of 55km and 75km. Both head west to Purton, and then divide.

The short route leads to Brinkworth, south to Clyffe Pypard, then north before returing to Swindon. The longer route lead to Malmesbury, before turning south to Clyffe Pypard, and then up a 16 per cent climb to the Ridgeway for stunning views, before returing to Swindon.

Both routes are signposted, have a food and drink station, mechanical support en route, and support vehicles.

Entry to the main events costs £15 in advance, with free entry to one individual named as part of the registration process.

A free-to-enter, family-friendly ride of 14km is also offered, and will be sign-posted for maximum fun and minimum stress.

The CTC Cycle Champions programme has been formed to reach out to new cycling audiences, and Swindon has its own development office, Anna Chisling.

“We’re really excited about having these rides in Swindon and the offer of having a friend ride for free on the day is a massive plus.

“It’s great to know that the shorter of the two road routes is attracting cyclists new to organised events who are looking to increase the amount of cycling without doing massive distances.

“The family route round the town on traffic free paths is a well established ride that we have used many times on our summer evening rides and will continue to use after the event so come along and try it out!” she said.
