Cutty Sark Blended Scotch Whisky and the Edinburgh International Film Festival are launching a day of bike powered cinema screenings which will be shown in the heart of the city.

Located at Festivalhouse@Teviot ,Teviot Row (Underground), the cinema will show five screenings of Belleville Rendezvous on Thursday June 23.

Film-goers aged 25 and over will have the opportunity to volunteer for a short shift on one of the eight bikes powering the cinema, which will be positioned in front of the screen so that they don’t miss any of the film.

“This week is Team Green Britain Bike Week and it is all about rediscovering the thrill of riding a bike and this initiative is certainly a great way of helping people do that,” said Cycling Scotland chief executive Ian Aitken.

“We hope that Bike Week, which runs from June 18 to 26, will encourage those with an unused bike to get it out of the shed or garage, fix it up and find out how good it feels to cycle as part of their everyday lives.”

Belleville Rendez-vous (12A) is an animated French film which tells the story of Madame Souza, an elderly woman who goes on a quest to rescue her grandson Champion, a Tour de France cyclist, who has been kidnapped by the French mafia for gambling purposes and taken to the city of Belleville.

The screenings will take place at 11am, 12.30pm, 2pm, 3.30pm and 5pm.
