The 2009 Sunday Sportive season is shaping up nicely with average attendances double those in 2008, and with just three events remaining now is the time to get your entry in.
Woodcote, August 16: One of the biggest events of the series in 2008, this West Chilterns tour is an excellently varied sportive. Revised to offer a more flowing ride for 2009, the course covers a fantastic mix of challenging and scenic roads where the Thames bisects the Chiltern Hills and marks their transition into the Oxfordshire Downs. You’ll pass through intricate lanes and steep, wooded Thames-side climbs, to the broad. open sweeps below the Oxfordshire Ridgeway. Variously fast & flowing with some calf burning climbs, but always inspiringly scenic, this is a rewarding ride in every sense.
Southern Sportive 2009, September 13: Starting once again from Churchers College in Petersfield, this is has become a classic in just 4 years. This is a true riders course; tough enough to catch the unwary, but flowing, fast and one of the most beautiful on the calendar; get your effort right on the day this is a pure delight that will remind you just why you ride a bike! There’s space for 1500 riders and places are selling fast, so book soon to avoid missing out.
Dunsfold, October 11: For one day only, pedal power takes over at the home of BBC’s Top Gear, and we’d love to see the look on Clarkson’s face! Dunsfold aerodrome was a late venue change for the 2008 season finale, to accommodate demand, and it’s back on the calendar for 2009. A great course takes you through the muscular profiles of the Surrey Hills and North Downs, mixed with the fast flats of the Low Weald.
