Alex Dowsett (Movistar) will race in the London IG Nocturne on Saturday June 8, 2013.
The two-time and reigning British time trial champion won the city centre race, held on the streets surrounding the historic Smithfield Market, in 2011 while riding for Team Sky.
Dowsett’s most recent success came in the stage eight time trial at the Giro d’Italia, which he won in impressive fashion by finishing ahead of some of the world best riders.
The Maldon rider is among a host of big names expected to ride the hour-long race through London’s oldest market.
It was won last year by British road race champion, Ian Stannard, a team-mate of Dowsett’s when the latter was at Sky, and a fellow Essex native.
The Elite Women’s Criterium is also packed with star names, including Great Britain’s Olympic gold medal winning women’s team pursuit squad, the Wiggle-Honda trio of Dani King, Laura Trott, and Jo Rowsell.
Trott said: ” “I’m really excited about this race, there are always so many fans lining the streets, and we’ll want to put on a great performance.
“The IG London Nocturne will be important for the us leading into the national championships – it will be our last real test against a competitive field.”
The Norglide Elite Critierum will top the bill after a packed day of racing, which starts at 4pm with the LCC Urban Cyclo-cross event.
Two, three-lap qualifying heats for the Time Out Folding Bike Race will be held from 4.30pm.
The 30-minute plus five lap Leigh Day Kermesse race gets underway at 5.10pm – the final race before the interval.
Racing resumes at 6.30pm with the IG City Criterium for firms from the Square Mile, to be followed at 7.10pm by the Brooks Penny Farthing Race.
The 20-minute plus five lap Schwalbe Track Bike Cirtierum gets underway at 7.50pm, before the folding bike race final at 8.30pm.
Elite racing begins at 8.50pm with the 30-minute plus five-lap Elite Women’s Criterium, before the show-closing Norglide Elite Criterium in which Dowsett will compete.
