Tour Down Under 2014: stage two – five observations

Thoughts as Diego Ulissi wins stage two and Gerrans extends overall lead

Pro cycling’s elite riders are back in action, and after just two days of racing Down Under we have already been reminded just how unpredictable the sport can be.

Just one day ago Simon Gerrans appeared to be in untouchable form, winning the Australian national road race and following it with stage victory at the Tour Down Under.

Lampre-Merida’s Diego Ulissi has made certain the Orica-GreenEDGE man won’t have it all his own way in 2014 however, out-sprinting the Australian in Stirling.

Nevertheless, Gerrans extended his overall lead to seven seconds in his home country and left us plenty to chew over.
