Victory on the Cauberg is nothing new for former world champion Philippe Gilbert (BMC Racing).

In 2012, he won the rainbow jersey on its infamous slope: the same on which  he stormed to his third Amstel Gold Race success.

But after a barren 2013 campaign – rescued by a lone stage win at the Vuelta a Espana – this year’s win is a sign the Belgian is back.

Having already won the Brabantse Pijl in the week leading up to the Amstel Gold Race, the Walloon could now be set to dominate the Ardennes Classics – with La Fleche Wallonne and Liege-Bastogne-Liege to come.

For now, though, he can bask in the glory of another stunning victory to add to his glistening CV.
