Bradley Wiggins’ Felt F1 SL team bike

Bradley Wiggins’ Felt F1 SL team bike

Three-times Olympic champion Bradley Wiggins has been the revelation of the 2009 Tour de France, having transformed himself from a track specialist to a real GC contender, riding consistently with the fastest men in the race and currently within sight of the podium, if he can dislodge Lance Armstrong on Ventoux.

Felt are relatively new to the Tour de France. They’ve supplied the Garmin-Slipstream team with its top-end F1 SL frameset. A full-carbon construction and weight in the region of 900g are the headline grabbing features. Shimano’s electronic Di2 is gradually gaining acceptance among riders and Wiggins has elected to run it.

Interestingly Wiggins has adopted Rotor’s Q-Rings, whose non-circular chainrings seem to be gaining more support amongst the peloton.

Other notable items on his bike are the Zipp 202 wheels used in the mountain stages, which at 1081g a pair must be the ideal climbing wheelset. Rims are just 32mm tall and combined with new 88/188 hubs ensure they’re extremely aerodynamic. Arundel’s Mandible bottle cages are lightweight but reliable bottle holders, and a Garmin Edge 705 GPS computer keeps track of all his output data.
