Overshoes
Overshoes
Finally, overshoes. Getting cold fingers is bad enough and cold and wet toes are no better, so overshoes are essential when there’s rain in the air and the roads are wet.
A neoprene overshoe will protect against the wind and rain, while a fleece-lined thermal bootie will provide additional protection in the coldest conditions.
The most important thing to consider when buying overshoes is the fit. If it’s too loose around the cleat or at the top of your ankle, then this will provide an easy entry point for rain water.
Oh, and warm winter socks, particularly those made from merino wool, will also help keep your feet toasty, but avoid the temptation of wearing more than one pair of socks as this will only restrict circulation if it makes your shoes too tight.
And that’s that – time to wrap up and hit the road!
