Cervélo have unveiled the super-aero S5 – to be used by Garmin-Cervélo, including world champion Thor Hushovd, during the Tour de France.
The flagship S5 supercedes the S3 but, in a bid to achieve further aerodynamic gains, borrows design features from the P4 time trial machine, most notably with the bladed seatpost, and aero seat tube and top tube junction.
The rear wheel cutout looks to maximise smooth airflow from frame to wheel, while the sleek seatstays are engineered to shield the brake calipers and the dropped downtube minimises turbulence behind the fork crown.
With that, Cervélo claim the S5 will save riders 36.8 seconds (or 9.2 watts) over a 40km course when riding at 40km/h compared to the S3.
Prices and UK availability are yet to be confirmed. More to follow.
