With the recent heavy rain leaving the roads awash with dirt and debris, more experienced cyclists will have bolted on their mudguards. The type of guards you can buy is determined by the clearance offered by your bike and whether or not it has eyelets, but once armed with that information there is a range of affordable options out there.

Some mudguards – such as the SKS Bluemels – offer a range of widths too, and the longer and wider your choice, the more grateful your riding buddies will be. German brand SKS is among the market leaders and much of their range is available in the UK, including the rear popular Raceblade and Raceblade Long. None should take too big a chunk out of the budget either, often coming in at around the £40 mark.
