Colnago have long been associated with racing and some of the greatest champions of the sport have ridden to victory aboard one of the Italian company’s models. But as the growth in sportive events has ushered in a new breed of relaxed geometry framesets, Colnago has decided to venture into new territory in 2010.
The Ace is the company’s bike intended for just such riding. A full carbon fibre monocoque frameset is designed around ‘Real X’ geometry, which makes for a “more comfortable riding position for better experience,” it says here.
Offered with a full carbon fork, the frameset only is said to hit the scales at 1.2kg. Stiffness isn’t compromised as the downtube is oversized to 49mm and Colnago’s CHS (Colnago Head-Set system) semi-integrated headset features at the front. It’s available in eight sloping sizes and two colour schemes will be available.
The Ace will be available as a fully-built bike specced with a Campagnolo Veloce groupset, Racing 7 wheels, FSA finishing kit for £2199.95.
It certainly looks good in the pictures and appears to retain the sharp styling and classic looks that have come to define Colnago bicycles over the years while the new geometry will surely be popular for riders seeking a less demanding and more upright position.
