Colomba is a new British brand of cycle wear that was conceived in the Yorkshire Dales by cyclists who wanted to wear their own jerseys. The result is a range of four British-designed jerseys with a distinctive style all of their own.

Made from Sportwool, the range of four jerseys features a distinct style that draws on the ‘golden era of cycling’. Columba have kept each design simple with strong branding. The jersey tested by RCUK is perhaps the boldest of the four, with large lettering across the chest, but it’s still classy, with the other designs adopting a more discrete approach.

The jerseys are made from Sportwool, a fabric that really needs no introduction. It’s a blend of Merino wool (52%) and polyester (48%) which places the wool against the body so you enjoy all the comfort benefits of the naturally sourced material, while the man-made fibres ensure it’s breathable and wicks sweat away.

Colomba describe the jersey as being aimed at the ‘social cyclist’ which sounds like an eminently sensible decision to us. The fit therefore isn’t skin tight but there’s just enough looseness for it to be comfortable, and the medium tested was a fine fit. The rear of the jersey is dropped a bit lower than the front and there’s a length of elastic on the rear of the waist. The sleeves are a bit on the long side, I’d personally like to see them being a tiny bit shorter…

The Colomba logo is ‘flock’ printed on the front and back which is a nice touch, and not something we’ve seen on many other jerseys (only Rapha’s Swift jersey springs to mind), and the sleeves see the company’s circular dove logo embroidered into place. This particular jersey gets a short front zip front (with a small pocket for the zip to protect your neck), and there are three large pockets on the back – the outer pockets have an angled top which makes retrieving contents on the move just a little bit easier – plus one small waterproofed zipped pocket with a large loop puller.

Speaking to Colomba, their plans don’t stop with these jerseys, but will soon expand to a full range. A baselayer, socks, light weight summer jersey, shorts and jackets are all in development and sound exciting. More on those soon…
