Core Bike Show 2014: Lightweight, Neil Pryde, POC, Fizik, 3T, Red Ant, Ride

German super bike spotted in the UK

The Volta is a new addition to Fizik’s saddle range and marries classic styling with modern materials.

The Volta is a new model in Fizik’s 2014 saddle range

The retro perch, available in white or black from March, is inspired by long-standing favourites including the Selle San Marco Rolls and Selle Italia Turbo, with a heavily curved profile, deep sides which keep the rails hidden and a flat nose. That gives the Volta a large surface area, ideal, Fizik say, for riders who like to move about on the saddle.

The Volta R1 has carbon-braided rails

The Volta’s styling may be classic, but its modern construction, which includes a carbon thermoplastic composite shell and synthetic microtex cover, ensures weight remains low at a claimed 165g for the carbon-railed R1 model (£210) and 205g for the K:ium alloy-railed R3 (£140).

Meanwhile, Fizik have also introduced the VS X range. The new line-up follows the success of the VS collection, but drops the depth of the internal channel from 7mm to 20mm.

Saddles in the new VS X line-up have a 20mm-deep central channel

Fizik say the deeper channel ensures the rider’s rear end stays supported by the two sides of the saddle, rather than flattening the channel, and thus relieves soft tissue pressure. The VS X range will include the Arione, Aliante, and Antares, priced at £125 with K:ium rails and £210 with carbon rails.
