Garmin Vector power pedals – first ride

The future

The Vector’s capacity to measure power throughout the pedal stroke creates options for further data streams, and RCUK understands a pedaling efficiency metric is in the pipeline. Nothing more taxing than installing a firmware update will be required for readings on the smoothness of the pedal stroke and torque efficiency. Silver was unable to say which of Garmin’s computers will display this data.

The first release of the Garmin Vector power pedal is LOOK Keo-compatible only, but Garmin has not ruled out future iterations for other platforms

Garmin have developed the Vector’s pedal platform with Exustar to ensure total control over the spindle-based power meter. Silver said that other pedal manufacturers had been in contact with Garmin, and confirmed that developing a spindle-based power meter to work with other pedal platforms was possible. “Our view is that a mountain bike version is the next simplest step,” he said. “Nothing has been decided yet. Everything is on the table.”
