With its open fibrous structure and impeccable green credentials, the EcoSponge is just made for every cyclist’s cleaning bucket. Or grown…
Sourced from the Philippines and FairTraded to the UK, the sponge, which is more of a rough, fibrous pad, is part of the Luffa plant and will rot away naturally once it has reached the end of its natural – geddit? – life.
Once soaked in water it grows to a more impressive size than the Shredded Wheat format of the dry product. The distributor, eco-friendly lube specialist Green Oil, claims a life of around one year although proper drying between non-aggressive usages might extend this. In any case, the fibrous structure is easily rinsed so mud and grit don’t stay trapped inside whence they can emerge to scuff delicate paintwork.
Is it an effective sponge. Well, a 99p car wash special holding one litre of suds it is not; suitable for the less exigent demands of cycle washing it is.
