London Bike Show 2014 – five observations

Trends, topics and what the London Bike Show told us about cycling in 2014

Hit Factory

You’ll forgive us a little self-congratulation when we report that the London Bike Show was an undoubted success for Factory Media, publishers of RoadCyclingUK, hosts of a test track that made the M25 look like a quiet back road, and Total Women’s Cycling, whose award ceremony was attended by what appeared to be the entire cycle industry.

Kirsty Ho Fat and Aoife Glass celebrate with TWC’s Unsung Heroine of the Year, Sara Braidwood, Breeze Co-ordinator for Cheshire and Merseyside

We’ll temper what might seem an immodest observation by reserving our heartiest cheer for our sister site. Kirsty Ho Fat and Aoife Glass have taken TWC from launch to over 100,000 monthly unique users in a year – an achievement not lost on the 16 winners, who displayed their ‘rosettes’ proudly for the remainder of the show. Those welcomed to the stage included Laura Trott’s parents, who collected the Pro Rider of the Year and Women’s Cycling Personality of the Year awards on behalf of their illustrious daughter.

British women’s cycling is not short of success stories, and to the achievements of Trott, Rowsell, King, Barker, Armitstead, Garner, Wyman, Pooley, Barnes, James, Harris, Varnish (we could go on), we’ll add those of TWC. Chapeau, ladies.
