LOOK 795
Still topping the LOOK range for 2016 is the 795 Aerolight, the fully integrated aero superbike that cuts through the air as effectively as it splits opinion with its looks.
Up front, the integrated Aerostem is one of the main reasons the cockpit flows so seamlessly into the heavily sloping toptube, and the adjustment range of between 17 to -13 degrees equates to a 57mm range for a 110mm stem, meaning most riders should be able to find something that works for them.
Cabling is also routed from the headtube all the way to the brakes and derailleurs, meaning that the only cable housing you see is right under the stem and the rear derailleur loop (if you’re running mechanical shifting). Speaking of which, the frameset is compatible with both electronic and traditional shifting.
Another nod to aerodynamics are the fully integrated brakes. The rear is hidden beneath the bottom bracket, while the front has been designed as part of the fork, mimicking those more commonly found on time trial bikes than normal road bike calipers. Having said that, the integrated brakes are only on the ‘Aerolight’ model, while the ‘Light’ version comes with traditional caliper brakes.
The Aerolight retails at £5,999 with a full Shimano Dura-Ace groupset paired with LOOK’s own futuristic-looking 50-34t Zed 3 crankset and an 11-28t cassette – another hill-friendly combo. Bars and stem are LOOK’s own, and the seatpost is integrated and topped by a Selle Italia SLR Flow Monolink saddle all rolling on a set of Mavic Aksium Elites. Unusually, the Aerolight also comes with a set of pedals, in the form of LOOK’s own Keo Blade 2s. Claimed weight for the bike is 7.13kg, although LOOK say it can be easily built to under the 6.8kg UCI weight limit.
The 795 Light is essentially the same frame (although the rear brake is mounted on a bridge between the seatstays) and the fork moves the front brake to its traditional position rather than having an integrated unit. In reality, it’s likely to be a far more user-friendly option for the average rider, providing you’re willing to forgo the aero gain. Other than that the spec is exactly the same as the Aerolight, from the saddle down to the pedals, but the price drops down to £5,499.99 and the weight to 7kg.
