Spotted at Eurobike was a narrow clincher tyre from Continental expected to be launched at the London Cycle Show.
For many UK riders the most important feature of the SuperSport will be the thick polyurethane Anti Puncture Belt inserted under the tread. Adding perhaps 60g to the weight of a 23c tyre, this belt should greatly increase resistance to penetration by sharp objects.
The belt will be assisted by a reworking of Conti’s regular carcass layout to give three layers of sidewall fabric running from bead to bead rather than simply under the tread. Adding cut resistance to the sidewall, this will, or course add a little further weight to bring a 700x23c tyre to around 330g.
A final touch is the reintroduction of the tread pattern used on the legendary Continental Grand Prix clincher of the late ’90s. More details on sizes, weights, price and tread compounds as we get them. The anti puncture belt will also be fitted to a version of the respected Top Touring distance tyre.
