To watch the action from last weeks Tour of Flanders, RCUK’s correspondent and companions opted, instead of heading to the famous cobbled climbs, to make a beeline for the feedzones. After watching the riders blast through the first, we hot-footed it to the second feedzone.
Grabbing a musette while travelling at considerable speed is a tricky business, made even dicier when there are large crowds assembled. The second feed was located on a hill and came soon after the ascent of the Koppenberg. Riders were now split into several groups, and struggling riders were pulling out left and right.
To cut a long story short, one of the Astana riders failed to clasp his musette securely and dropped it, so we scooped it up. Inside, several foil-packed bread rolls and water bottle were joined by what you can see over in the picture to the left.
The gel, which looks like it might be a new product from Science in Sport that is still going through pre-production testing, isn’t scheduled for release just yet, but when it is we’ll bring you some more details.
