Steve Cummings’ comeback from injury came too late to force his way into BMC Racing’s reckoning for the Vuelta a Espana – but it meant the former Team Sky man got to roll out for the Tour of Britain on very familiar territory.
Twice a runner-up in the race, Cummings was given a hero’s welcome as he returned to his home town of Liverpool to lead BMC Racing.
He gave his fans plenty to cheer, too, launching a late attack on the city circuit before being reeled back as Marcel Kittel went on to sprint into the yellow jersey.
But with another stage in Merseyside to enjoy, with stage two rolling out of Knowsley Safari Park en-route to north Wales, we took a closer look at Cummings’ machine.
