Britain’s Team Raleigh are going from strength to strength as the current incarnation of the historic team bid to return to the glory days of their ancestors TI-Raleigh – Peter Post, Jan Raas, Joop Zoetemelk et al.
This year’s team, led by Eddie White and Cherie Pridham, have been buoyed by the signing of last year’s British domestic number one Yanto Barker while French legend Bernard Hinault has taken on a patron’s role.
And the bikes on which Barker and co will be riding this year, the Militis Team, are certainly befitting of their ever-increasing status.
The flagship Militis frame, made from high-modulus T800 carbon fibre, features internal cable routing and – new for 2014 – is Di2 compatible.
Paired with the 395g C6 carbon-fibre fork, and dressed in SRAM’s Red 22 groupset, the Militis Team is Raleigh’s top-of-the-range model, and costs £5,000.
Raleigh’s team issue time trial bike, the Aura Team, shares the stylish red and black paint job afforded to the Militis Team for 2014 and features a UCI-approved high-modulus carbon frame.
Designed to reduce drag through the brake position and internal routing, the Aura Team, dressed in SRAM’s Force 22 groupset, is available for £4,000.
Also on show for the first time was Raleigh’s fixed-gear Equipe track bike, with the model year 2015 range due to land imminently.
Originally due to be called the Equinox, a trademark issue forced the name change to one more associated with Raleigh’s 1980s road range.
Fitted with RSP’s 165mm Crank gearset and a 49-tooth chainring, the Equipe is also supplied with additional chainrings and sprockets to optimise performance according to its rider.
The all-black 6061 performance track frame and carbon fork, coupled with RSP TC 1.0 wheels, and Vittoria Zaffirio Slick tyres, weighs in at just 7.7kg.
Costing £600, Raleigh expect the Equipe to be available from stockists from the spring.
