Anyone who admired the headgear sported by the GreenEDGE WorldTour team on their way to team time trial victory on the opening stage of the 2012 Tirenno-Adriatico, will be pleased to learn it will soon be available to mortals like the rest of us.
The Australian team posted a victory margin of some 17-seconds over RadioShack-Nissan-Trek during on a course of just 16.9km – taking more than a second a kilometre out of their closest rivals.
Scott is justifiably proud of the achievement and has made it the top line of a marketing statement to launch the Split.
Its aero design has been developed in conjunction with the Australian team’s riders and will go on public sale after this year’s Eurobike show in September.
Low drag, a wide field of vision, an integrated visor, and a fully adjustable fit are promised. Long sessions in the wind tunnel produced various versions of the helmet, with the final design featuring a clip-in visor.
Scott UK told us the Split is a 2013 model year product that will be brought to market ‘after Eurobike’, the giant trade show to be held in Freiderichshafen, Germany, at the end of August.
They had no pricing information, but have added to us a list of those in line for a test model. We’ll let you know how it performs.
