Shimano R087 shoes – just in

Fresh out of the box and ready to test

Shimano have updated their road shoe range for 2011, albeit only making minor changes, mainly aesthetic, across the collection – and we’ve just received the R087 to test.

The R086 from 2010 makes way for the R087 which, still priced at £79.99, represents good value for your average pedaller.

The R087 sticks with the black and white colourway, but with narrower, flowing lines, rather than the R086’s zebra effect. As with any predominantly white shoe, it may not be to everyone’s taste, but the change gets the RCUK thumbs-up.

The technology in the shoe remains much the same, with the nylon sole reinforced with fibreglass and a large vent under the toes.

Compatible with SPD and SPD-SL cleats, the R087’s micro-adjust buckle is unobtrusive and seeks to make minor adjustments a doddle, while keeping the close-fitting shoe secured in place.

The R087 comes up small, so it’s well worth ordering a size up or trying them on before you buy.

So there you have our first impressions on the Shimano R087 shoes. Now it’s time to get out on the bike and see how they perform.
