Schwalbe Durano (£35.99)
Schwalbe Durano (£35.99)
Coming with a high level of puncture protection, Schwalbe’s Durano are available from 23mm up to a whopping 32mm (in the wired version only) for anyone whose bike has clearance for tyres that wide. They also come in a vast array of colours for anyone desperate to match the rubber with frame colour.
The headline feature is the double layer of nylon fabric – called the RaceGuard protection belt – that’s there to catch anything that makes it through the outer layer of the tyre. It’s also designed to be extremely hard wearing, meaning you’ll be able to put in a lot of miles in all conditions before you have to think about shelling out for a new set.
The Durano is pitched as a training tyre, and in our experience it’s one of the best, but there’s also make a version called the Double Defense which, as the name suggests, goes all out with double the amount of puncture protection, although that model’s only available up to 25mm. If you’re after something a bit racier, Schwalbe also offer their ‘One’ tyres up to 28mm.
