Trek’s Madone range launched in 2003 and it’s featured heavily across RCUK since, right up to the £7k+ Radioshack replica which sat proudly in the test stable last year. Now the 2011 Madone 5.2 has arrived ready for action.
Sitting midway in the Madone range, with Leopard Trek’s 6.9 SSL topping the bill, the 5.2 retails at £2,800. “The 5 Series rider wants it all,” say Trek. “Uncompromising performance, class-leading technology, affordable price.”
The 5 Series TCT Carbon frame, essentially the same as the Madone 6 tested last year, houses a BB90 bottom bracket, with internal cable routing.
David Arthur reviewed the 5.2 Pro in 2008. The 2011 5.2 remains kitted out with Shimano Ultegra groupset, with Bontrager Race wheels, and Race X Lite fork and stem. Here’s the full spec.
Our test bike comes with an 11-28 Shimano 105 cassette and 50-34 Ultegra chainset – so it’s built for the mountains. There’s also a triple (52-39-30) spec available. Our 56cm 5.2 has a tall 170mm headtube while, if you jump up to the 6 Series, there’s racier geometries available.
The black, platinum and white paintjob (red, onyx carbon and white also available) will sit well in the bunch, but there’s no chance of missing the manufacturer, with Trek plastered across the frameset. Previous Madone’s have ridden like a dream so I suppose it’s time we see how this one gets on…
